Getting criticism over your carbon footprint from air travel, Prince Harry and Princess Meghan? Well, German airline Lufthansa may have just the solution for you.

The British royals took flack this week for making four private jet journeys in the space of 11 days recently, with one being a trip to France to visit pop star Elton John at his home.

The fabled British musician leapt to the defence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, saying he paid to carbon offset the trip.

For Lufthansa, then, it ended up a decent week to unveil its new Compensaid sustainability platform, which gives passengers the ability to offset their carbon footprint by using sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

Passengers using the platform will have the option to replace fossil fuel with SAF — whereby Lufthansa would utilise an offsetting process within six months — or they can support a reforestation project in Nicaragua.

Compensaid combines a global airline flight tracking tool with a sustainability platform that makes it possible to directly offset individual carbon dioxide emissions.

Lufthansa claims passengers can reduce their CO₂ emissions by up to 80% by using the platform.

It is unknown if Prince Harry and his wife will be booking Lufthansa flights any time soon. But perhaps environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg, currently halfway through her journey sailing from the UK to New York, could consider it next time she needs to attend international climate change conferences.
